Those were great times for us. We didn’t have much, such as an (analogue) camera of our own or proper rolls of film. Some were daylight-balanced films shot under tungsten lights. Everything turned orange. Converting and restoring those positive transparencies to greyscale was the right thing to do.

We had no fancy sets, not even any studio lights. In fact, no studio at all. So we improvised.

Yet we had a strong and powerful ally who insisted on making the two of us very happy fellows: our imagination. A simple wood stick, a pair of spectables or sunglasses, a newspaper, a cigarette, a school slate, a magnifying glass, and, lately, some LED string lights too. Any corner or wall, usualy full of holes and scratches, would do. And some nice clothes and haircuts. That was our way of doing things.

But then, there was you. You made all the difference, as those sessions became the best evenings of the week. We had a lot of fun, sometimes shooting after eating a mulatto snapper with baked potatoes cooked in the oven. You ate the head, i ate most of the fillets. A very nice deal…

I’m pretty sure you will notice the cover title font. It’s your favourite typeface: Helvetica.

I could have thought about doing this book much earlier, wouln’t you say? Anyway, I’ll send it to you by teleportation (something you dig a lot). The Quantum Mechanics Field carrier will deliver it to you in no time, throughout the invisible fabric of space. The two volumes of this photobook are deeply linked by Quantum Entanglement. One cannot be described independently of the other.

We’re all made of supernova explosions. So, “we’ll meet again” as our cosmic dust forms a new star in the Universe, “some sunny day”. Until that day, “keep smiling through, just like you always do”.

[Verse]
We’ll meet again
Don’t know where, don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day

Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
‘Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away

[Pre-Chorus]
So will you please say “Hello” to the folks that I know
Tell them I won’t be long
They’ll be happy to know that as you saw me go
I was singing this song

We’ll meet again
Don’t know where, don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day

[Chorus]
We’ll meet again
Don’t know where, don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day

Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
‘Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away

[Chorus]
So will you please say “Hello” to the folks that I know
Tell them I won’t be long
They’ll be happy to know that as you saw me go
I was singing this song

We’ll meet again
Don’t know where, don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day

Vera Lynn, 1939
Songwriters: Ross Parker & Hughie Charles
